Our SBIR grant journey is now in phase 2 with the IES and we are excited

We would love to give an update on where we are with our journey in the IES SBIR grant program. What is SBIR? It's the 'Small Business Innovation Research' program is a federal initiative that was started in 1982 and provides research grants to small, American-owned businesses. The program originally had three main objectives:

  • Spur technological innovation in the small business sector
  • Meet the research and development needs of the federal government
  • Commercialize federally funded investments.

Lingo Jingo has been participating in the program through the Department of Education - and more specifically, the Institute of Education Sciences (IES).

The program has two phases and Lingo Jingo was a proud winner of Phase 1 where we were awarded $150,000 for the purpose of us to show the feasibility and technical merit of our language teaching platform prototype. Our submission was only one of 12 to win from more than 250 companies participating! We are now aiming for Phase 2 of the grant program, which funds expanded research and development into the platform as well as allows for the execution of our commercialization plan.

Only the 12 Phase 1 award winners are allowed to compete for the Phase 2 grant which will award another $950,000 in funding. We are VERY excited about our Phase 2 submission and the commercial potential of Lingo Jingo to be an invaluable asset to language educators across the country.

Again, we are very excited about - and grateful for - our ability to participate and succeed in this outstanding program. We will be posting more information about our journey through the SBIR program that will include more details about what was submitted for Phase 2 and where we are headed.

Thank you! The Lingo Jingo team.
